This is the same quartet that played on Heavy Soul -- Freddie Roach (Organ) -Milt Hinton (Bass) and Al Harewood (Drums). With this production Ike Quebec scored another winning hard bop album with It Might As Well Be Spring. In many ways this recording is a companion piece to Heavy Soul. Since both albums were recorded so close together it's no surprise that there's quite a bit of similarities in style although there are subtle nuances to enjoy (dig). The primary difference between these two works is that It Might As Well Be Spring is a relaxed, romantic date comprised of impeccable standards. It allows Quebec to showcase his rich, lyrical style, and he does so stunningly throughout the album. Freddie Roach has a very cool, understated keyboard technique, whether he's soloing or providing support for Quebec. The pair have an intuitive simbiotic connection that makes It Might As Well Be Spring a superb listen. Get this album when you can. It's really hard to find
